There is an interesting article by Graham (2005) (BBC Teaching English journal). It's about using 'blogging' for ESL purposes. Graham uses Campbell 's (2003) classification of blogs in ESL context: the Tutor Blog; the Class Blog; the Learner Blog (the one we use in the class). According to the author, there are different reasons behind using blogs in ESL/EFL classes: provide extra reading for students, increase the sense of community in the class, excite students to use process-writing approach, encourage learners to use their own portfolio (future progress evaluation) etc. The main reason is to "provide a real audience for student writing": their classmates, teacher, learners from different classes/schools/cities/states/countries, their parents, friends and "potentially anyone with access to the Internet" (Graham 2005). The article also concerns information on starting and setting a blog, keeping learners interest (for instance, teacher's quick response to students' posts). There is also information on drawbacks (privacy issue) and advantages of "blogging".

Thanks for thoses ideas I have been wondering what to do with my students in their CALL class this week so we might look into creating a Blog. Then they have to comment and keep up entries.
Let me know how it goes ... I've also got some interesting links to articles that i'll be giving you all in the workshop on 19th. A great trip of imagination is called for, I think!
